Enneagram Types
The Enneagram is an interesting, rather useful personality typing system that divides human beings into nine basic types. Each type describes a distinct worldview, particularly the way a person communicates and attempts to solve problems. The term has Greek roots and refers to a nine-pointed star or polygon consisting of a circle and lines connecting specific points; the nine points correspond to nine personality types in the Enneagram system. The shape serves as a visual representation of the nine types and helps understand the dynamics between them, such as how individuals might behave in different situations based on their personality type.
The Reformer
The Reformer, also known as the Perfectionists, value the inherent worth of all and strive to do meaningful good. Driven by an internal critic, they aim for personal and external perfection but may become rigid or overly critical. Maturity teaches them to accept imperfections and extend compassion to themselves and others.
The Helper
Twos are generous and caring, and seek validation through acts of service. Their sense of worth comes from being loved and valued, but their struggle with boundaries and self-care can lead to burnout.
The Achiever
Type Threes are competitive and driven by the desire for recognition and success, often prioritizing appearances over authenticity. Their fear of failure and rejection pushes them to seek validation through achievements.
The Individualist
Emotional and introspective, Type Fours often feel lonely and question their place in the world. They seek authenticity but may struggle with self-worth and jealousy, getting lost in comparisons.
The Investigator
Type Fives are analytical and curious, driven by a desire to understand and master the world, often leading to social withdrawal. They may fear being overwhelmed, prompting them to guard their resources.
The Loyalist
Type Six are responsible and security-seeking, valuing loyalty and often driven by a need for security. This can lead to overthinking and anxiety, as they may question themselves and look to role models for guidance.
The Enthusiast
Type Sevens are adventure-seekers who prioritize living in the moment, driven by a desire to avoid pain and boredom. This often leads them to pursue new experiences, sometimes at the expense of commitment or facing difficult emotions. While their optimism is infectious, Sevens may struggle with dealing with discomfort.
The Challenger
Type Eights are dynamic, powerful, and action-oriented individuals who highly value their independence. They thrive in challenging situations, often stepping up to defend themselves and others. While their assertiveness can be motivating and constructive, it can also appear aggressive or hostile, especially when they struggle to show vulnerability.
The Peacemaker
Type Nines are gentle, cooperative individuals who seek harmony and avoid conflict. Their deepest desire is to keep everything and everyone around them calm, sometimes at the cost of their own needs and preferences. Nines often feel stuck, torn between internal hesitation and external pressures.
